Agreement between MEDWAY and the Train Drivers' Union

This Monday, MEDWAY signed its first Company Agreement with the National Union of Train Drivers of the Portuguese Railways - SMAQ, which aims at a commitment to improve the working conditions of these employees.

Furthermore, with this officialization, MEDWAY freight transport trains will be able to run only with the driver in the cabin on the entire national rail network qualified for the purpose, similar to what happens throughout Europe and unlike the which was established in Portugal so far, except in the transport of hazardous materials or in situations in which the National Civil Protection Authority declares an orange or red alert status.

Carlos Vasconcelos, President of MEDWAY, refers to this agreement as “a point of stability, so that we can continue to build a better future for the company, making it more sustainable, with more benefits for those who work there, for the customers and the national economy. ”

“This moment is a special reason for rejoicing, as it represents the achievement of an important objective: to materialize a Company Agreement with SMAQ, which enables the growth and development of MEDWAY, in an environment of railway commitment”, he adds.

The Agreement was officially signed at MEDWAY's headquarters in Lisbon, between Carlos Vasconcelos, Director of MEDWAY, and the following representatives of the SMAQ Board: António Barata Domingues, President, António Manuel Almeida Alves, Vice President, Rui Jorge Félix Almeida, Treasurer , Luís Filipe da Costa Custódio, Member and Paulo Alexandre Martins Mendes Secretary.
