Viana do Castelo Supports the Creation of the National Railroad Day

Jul 30 2020

National Railroad Day

The Viana do Castelo City Council approved a motion to support the public petition for the creation of the “National Railroad Day”, launched by MEDWAY to honor all who work and have worked on the Portuguese railways.

“Viana do Castelo's history is closely related to the railroad. A greater example of this same relationship was the construction of the Eiffel Bridge, which this year marks its 142th anniversary, but also the strong connection of the parishes that the Linha do Minho crosses for over a century. This social, cultural and economic dynamic makes the railway one of the most important links of relations even with Galicia, so it becomes natural to support the public petition that calls for the creation of the National Railway Day, on October 28 ”, he highlights José Maria da Cunha Costa, Mayor of Viana do Castelo.

The petition calls for the implementation of the “National Railway Day” on 28 October, the date on which the first train journey was made in Portugal, and can be signed on the link.
