Track gauge

Also known as track width, it is the distance between the inner sides of the railheads of a single track, measured 15 mm (this dimension varies from country to country) below the running rail and square to the rails. The so-called standard gauge is 1 668 mm, which is the standard gauge in the Iberian Peninsula. The European gauge is 1435 mm. On the transrapid track, this is the distance between the outside faces of the guide rails and is 2800 mm.
