Component of the track superstructure that receives the loads from the rolling stock, guiding it along the railway line. It is a rolled steel profile, in which we can distinguish three main parts: the head, whose upper side constitutes the rolling table; the core, the vertical part connecting the head to the flange; the flange, the lower base which rests on the sleepers, extending and offering resistance to changes in the transversal inclination of the rails.
